Off Season Landscaping Services?

As a lawn care and landscaping services provider, I often get asked the question, “What do you do in the winter?” Here are a few things that we do in the winter. This will be helpful to current & potential clients, or other companies looking to stay busy during the cold months

The lawn and landscape field is great, and Central Virginia’s weather is fantastic in the sense that we get to experience all four seasons. As a lawn and landscape company in Charlottesville, Virginia, we are extremely blessed with beautiful weather… most of the year. The winter can be tough for many in our field, but here is what we do and why we do it.

I do not take my skilled and valuable team members for granted, not for a moment. This is why, in the wintertime, I make sure to do everything in my power to keep my team employed.

Landscaping Services

Starting in late February, we start our early landscaping services. On warm, sunny days, we begin to mulch. When March rolls around, we are hitting it hard with landscape projectscleanups, and planting. Once April hits, our mowing is in full swing. From here, we are mowing and landscaping for months on end, and we love it! In mid-late October, we begin to provide fall cleanups and leaf removal. This is not all we do during this time, but it is our main service in November and December; fall cleanups and leaf removal. We set up our big blowers, and our vacuum trucks and go house to house, sucking up leaves, and cleaning up properties. This will take us into the New Year and off and on during January & February.

When leaf cleanups & landscape projects are not as consistent as usual, we get creative in order to keep our team employed full time, 12, months out of the year. Of course, we provide commercial snow plowing & salting, but this can’t be entirely relied on in Virginia. This is why we roll out, what we call our “Home Services”. This list of services includes gutter cleaning, power washing, and interior painting. The winter of 2021 was the first year we tried this, and the results have been amazing! Our customers are thrilled to have us provide these services for them. They already know, like, and trust our team, so it’s a no-brainer. Plus the guys love it too, it’s a bit of a change of pace from the day-to-day work we do outside on a normal basis.

It has been such a blessing this year and I can’t wait to continue to build on it. I even plan to offer our customers discounts for allowing us to schedule certain services for times that we may be slow- whether that be the dead of winter, the middle of a drought, or interior painting on rainy days. It’s a win for both parties!

Interior Painting:

This service is awesome for us in the winter. Some days, it is just too wet, too cold, or too windy for us to be productive outside. That’s why I want to offer a service we could provide on days like this. Our trained team will carefully move the furniture, cover the floor, and do light repair work on walls during the prepping phase. Depending on what you need, we will prime the walls and paint, however, it needs many coats. We will customize the job to our clients’ wants and needs. Like I mentioned before, our customers already know, like, and trust, us, so hiring us to come inside their home to provide a service just makes sense.

Gutter Cleaning:

Gutter cleaning is a popular service in our industry, a necessary one at that. We offer this service primarily in the fall and winter months after the leaves have fallen. Here, our team will climb on the roof, using proper safety gear, and clean the roof and gutters of any clogged leaves, sticks, acorns, or debris. It is important to have this done or at least checked, to prevent any drainage issues. Make sure the company you hire for this has a license and insured!

Pressure Washing:

One of my favorite services! I am so excited to be offering this service and plan to continue to offer this service all year round. We primarily provide landscaping services, which is why we power wash. Our company wants to make sure we provide this to put the finishing touch on your property. Besides that, we use our professional equipment to wash off your porches, driveways, patios, walkways, etc. We even offer entire house washes. We use specific soaps and detergents, surface-specific, to make sure it looks as clean as can be. The difference that just a few hours of this can make, is incredible. Our team loves it and takes pride in it, so let us handle it for you!

So here is my long-winded answer to what we do in the wintertime to stay busy. Although “lawn care & landscaping” is in the name, it is not all we do. We are a service business, and pride ourselves in providing top-quality service.
